Sprogcenter
Vejle is a municipal language centre that provides
adult aliens with Danish instruction as well as teaching them about
cultural and social conditions in Denmark. The centre runs day and
evening courses. The
education programme is divided into three Danish courses: Danish
course 1 is intended for students with no or a poor educational
background, Danish course 2 is intended for students who normally have
a short educational background while Danish course 3 is intended for
students who normally have a lower or upper secondary or higher
educational background. Each Danish course is divided into six modules,
and enrolment in the next module presupposes the passing of a test.
All three Danish courses can be concluded at the language centre with
a state-controlled exam: Danish 1 examination, Danish 2 examination,
Danish 3 examination or the higher education examination, Studieprøven.
One of these examinations is necessary to obtain a permanent residence
permit in Denmark. The
language centre accepts all aliens once they have been granted a
Danish civil registration number, have reached 18 years of age, and
have been referred by their municipality of residence. The
courses are free for students, but in several municipalities a fee is
charged per Danish module for self-supporting students. This fee
varies from municipality to municipality. The
teaching is organised so as to be flexible and individual, and
planning takes place in close collaboration with each student. Course
participants are expected to take considerable responsibility for
their own learning, and only three years are allowed in order to pass
one of the four Danish examinations. The
language centre also offers customised courses for specific target
groups.
